Underhood recording of my renault 19 with oldish carburetted cleon engine (c2j). Double barrel webber 32 drt carb ~72ps engine. Start engine, tire skid, hard acceleration up to 6000 rpm and coast down to idle, several times. Throttle blips up to 7000 rpm. Mic: sony ecm-ds30p stereorecorder: sony mz-n707 mini disc, sp mode, agc: off. Wanted to test this cheap mic and custom made windscreen - this is my first car recording, and that's why i started with this cheap microphone, don't want to learn on expensive stuff. Still, i'm amazed how the recording turned out, it's $24 mic in not very silent area, yet it captured sound rather nicely. Windscreen (cost $0) turned out to be not that good :).

Short recording of a car (specifically an suv, but could easily work for a sedan or light truck) driving in from a distance and parking. It idles briefly, and then turns off the engine. Also some light suburban neighborhood ambience (light wind, subtle traffic in the distance). Recorded with a sennheiser mkh-416 into a zoom f4 at 48khz, 24-bit.

This is the sound of traffic at a stop light both stopping and going through the light as it turns red and green. There is a motor cycle in this audio that is idle waiting for the light with some revving and it's ultimate take off. Recorded in stereo with a sony pcm-d100.

Two contact microphones recording an engine from a mini cooper s in sport mode. Surprisingly aggressive-sounding. Intended to use for a race car asset. Contact microphones are stethoscope-like mics that you place onto a surface to record vibrations. This way, i was able to record the raw engine without wind or perspective. The left channel is the chassis and the right is the engine block. . . Blending the two together produces a great sound. Free to use.

A hyundai ix35 can be heard. It is started, runs a bit with isolated revs, and is turned off again. Before and after startup you can hear the car's control electronics. This is a clip of various engine sounds recorded on my 2003 subaru impreza wrx with a 3" turbo-back exhaust system. The audio starts with the engine at idle and includes a few engine revs at different rpms. You can hear some turbo whistling and also some rattling of god-knows-what parts. It's a little muffled (kind of a muddy sound), but could be used as part of an action sequence or with a music track laid over. As always, i love knowing how people use my tracks! i'd appreciate a comment letting me know what kind of project you're doing and, if possible, a link to any finished work! thanks.

This is the sound of a kubota three-cylinder diesel. Between 57 seconds and 1:15 it was being driven. The low speed was 600 rpm and it only goes to 2500, a surprise to me. They made me drive it in "turtle. " i was not trusted with "bunny. ".
